Heart Rhythm Update – The New Rhythm in Cardiology International Symposium

Symposium Director - Professor Dr. G. A. Dan

On October 18-19, 2019, in Bucharest, at Crowne Plaza Hotel, the fifth edition of “Heart Rhythm Update – The New Rhythm in Cardiology” International Symposium shall take place under the high patronage of the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy, “N. Gh. Lupu” Internal Medicine Foundation, as well as of the Romanian Society of Cardiology and “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Renowned international medical personalities acknowledged their presence at this event that has become a tradition, joining a number of prestigious local opinion leaders.

A new cadence of the Heart Rhythm Update – new rhythms in cardiology

More than one decade elapsed since the first edition of the International Symposium “Heart Rhythm Update”. Initially, this scientific manifestation was dedicated almost exclusively to evolution and challenges in the arrhythmia field and offered to the Romanian medical public a unique chance to face the expert opinions about arrhythmias, a chapter somehow neglected by the scientific meetings organized those times in Romania.

The first 3 editions represented a real success with more than 200 participants per edition, lectures held by renowned international and national key opinion leaders and vivid discussions.

For the 4th edition of “Heart Rhythm Update” we have changed the paradigm and the symposium no longer represents an exclusively arrhythmia event, but a more comprehensive panel depicting evolution of the most important aspects in cardiology. Why this switch?

Firstly, because of the demands expressed by many participants to the previous editions. Secondly, because in the last years the Romanian Society of Cardiology has organized many scientific manifestations and courses on arrhythmias, therefore completing the previous gap.

And thirdly, because facing more and more difficulties in finding sponsorship for scientific events it is wiser and more cost-effective to put together international and national experts in different cardiology fields in one symposium.

During HRU-V, taking place under the same subtitle as in 2016: The New Rhythms in Cardiology, the main actors in a two day event will be atrial fibrillation, antithrombotic drugs, heart failure and modern aspects of personalized medicine and of drug development. Two special lectures will complete the picture of this becoming traditional two-days meeting. One is dedicated to N.Gh. Lupu, one of the most prominent figures of the modern Romanian Internal Medicine, and the second is dedicated to Harry Neufeld, a well-known personality of international contemporary Cardiology, the first President of the International Society of Cardiology, one of our honorable and traditional endorsers. Both lectures will be held by important personalities of the worldwide Cardiology, Professor G.Y.H. Lip from Liverpool and Professor Juan-Carlos Kaski, from London.

Colleagues and well-known opinion-leaders from Brazil, Germany, Japan, Norway, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom and of course Romania generously accepted to present important updates and challenges for a generous medical public eager to know and to understand. We need to express our deep gratitude to all of them.

Equally our gratitude should be directed to pharmaceutical companies which since so many years understand their essential role for medical education and development and generously helped us. Also, our gratitude goes to the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy, Romanian Society of Cardiology, “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and “N.Gh. Lupu” Foundation of Medicine which acknowledged this event and supported our efforts. We owe, also, our deep sympathy and gratitude to the organizers of the Heart Rhythm Update, Media Med Publicis company; without their dedication, professionalism and selflessness this symposium would have never been possible.

And finally, we are grateful to the Romanian cardiologists for their avidity for knowledge and because as the Romanian historian Nicolae Iorga said “Nobody knows who teaches whom”.
